Free independent affordable warmth advice
Middlesbrough Environment City is a local charity which can provide free independent affordable warmth advice.
The Affordable Warmth Team can give support and advice face to face or by phone on the following:
- tariff checks and switching
- understanding smart meters
- damp and condensation
- understanding your energy bills
- fuel debt repayment advice
- Warm Home discount applications

Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme aims to help residents who are living in fuel poverty, on low income, and vulnerable to the effects of living in a cold home.
Councils are now able to determine which homes are eligible by using a new 'flexible eligibility' mechanism (ECO Flex).
The measures deliverable through ECO Flex are as follows:
- cavity wall insulation
- loft insulation
- inefficient heating replacements
- solid wall insulation
