School admission zones

All Middlesbrough primary schools and some secondary schools use admissions zones (also called catchment areas) as part of their oversubscription criteria.

Living in the admission zone for a school doesn't guarantee that your child will get a place at that school.

If a school uses admission zones as part of their oversubscription criteria, children who live within that admission zone will generally be given higher priority than children who live outside the zone. However, this is not a guarantee of a place in the school. Other children may have a higher priority depending on the school's oversubscription criteria. It also depends on how many other children apply.

You should consider including the school which you're in the admission zone for as one of your school preferences.

Disclaimer: the school admission zone drawings on this page are for guidance only. If your property is close to the boundary of an admission zone, you should contact the School Admissions Team to double check which zone you're in.

Primary schools

add

All homes in Middlesbrough will be in two admission zones for primary schools: a faith school and a non-faith school.

You can check the primary school admission zones drawing to see the admission zones for non-faith schools. If you're struggling to view the PDF, please email schooladmissions@middlesbrough.gov.uk.

For details of the admission zones for Middlesbrough faith schools (Roman Catholic), please refer to the schools' own websites.

Secondary schools

add

The following secondary schools in Middlesbrough use admissions zones as part of their oversubscription criteria: Acklam Grange, Macmillan Academy, The King's Academy, and Unity City Academy.

Outwood Academy Acklam, Outwood Academy Ormesby, Outwood Academy Riverside, and Trinity Catholic College do not have admission zones in their admission policies.

The secondary school admission zones drawing will be applicable to Middlesbrough secondary schools from September 2022. The map does not include Macmillan. If you're struggling to view the PDF, please email schooladmissions@middlesbrough.gov.uk.

Some properties in the Marton and Nunthorpe areas will be in the Nunthorpe Academy admission zone, which is in the Redcar and Cleveland council area. Please check the Nunthorpe Academy website for information about their admission zone.

Macmillan Academy's admission zone covers a wide area, including parts of Middlesbrough. Some properties may therefore also be in this admission zone. Please check the Macmillan Academy website for their admission zone and oversubscription criteria.

Information about admission policies and oversubscription criteria can be found on every individual school's website.
