A focus on diagnosis will be at the centre of a week of action promoting Middlesbrough as a dementia friendly town.
During Dementia Action Week experienced professionals will be on hand to speak to those in Middlesbrough concerned that they, or a loved one, are experiencing signs of dementia.
People are encouraged to speak to professionals who can offer practical advice on how to deal with a dementia diagnosis and what support is available.
A Festival of Creative Wellbeing at Middlesbrough Town Hall is one of a range of events being hosted this week to coincide with the Alzheimer’s Society campaign.
The event aims to promote and celebrate the benefits of creative activities and their positive impact on physical and mental health. It is aimed at people aged over 50.
Emma McInnes, Health Improvement Specialist from Public Health South Tees, said: “We understand that social isolation and loneliness can significantly impact people's health and wellbeing.
“Our event aims to provide a welcoming and inclusive space where older people can connect with others, try different creative activities, learn new skills, and learn about available support.
“The Festival of Creative Wellbeing is free to attend, and we encourage older people in our community to join us for a day of creativity, connection and learning.”
A guided walk around Stewart Park – with a new digital tour explaining the history and significance of the park - will round off the week of action.
