Privacy notice - Equality Monitoring
Who are we and what do we do?
Middlesbrough Council provide a wide range of services to residents and other customers from a wide range of backgrounds / protected characteristics.
What type of personal data do we collect and how do we collect it?
We collect personal identifiers and special category information that match the ‘protect characteristics’ within the Equalities Act 2010. This may include racial/ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, health, sex orientation.
How the Law allows us to use your personal data
The Council uses this information to meet its legal obligations, including where these are of substantial public interest, in the Equality Act 2010.
What is your personal data used for?
The Council has a ‘public sector equality duty’ to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity, and foster good relations in the community. This includes monitoring and understanding that impact of the decisions we make on the services we provide and how these will impact on different people or groups because of a protected characteristic that they hold.
Will your personal data be shared?
We only share information for our equality monitoring work in anonymised form.
How do we keep your personal data secure?
We only store this information in secure electronic records management systems which are encrypted, access is controlled with user accounts and passwords, and our data systems are backed-up on a regular basis.
How long will we keep your personal data?
The equality monitoring information is only held in identifiable form for as long as is necessary after which it is deleted or anonymised. We may hold some information for longer where you have an on-going relationship with us, to ensure that we understand any changes in our population. Is your personal data processed overseas?
We do not store any information relating to equality information overseas.
Marketing
We never use your information for direct marketing.
What are your information rights?
Your Information Rights are set out in law and, subject to some exceptions, you have the:
- Right to rectification - to ask for information to be corrected
- Right to erasure - to have your personal data deleted
- Right to object - to how your data is used
- Right to restriction - to request limits on how your data is used
- Right to portability - to request that we move your data to another organisation
- Right of subject access - to request a copy of data the Council holds about you
