Armed Forces Day commemorates the service of men and women in the British Armed Forces. The date and any events will be confirmed soon.
Battle of Britain parade (annual – September, date to be confirmed)
The Battle of Britain parade is held annually in September at the cenotaph from 11:30am, where a service and wreath-laying ceremony take place, supported by the RAF Cadets.
Trafalgar Day parade (annual – October, date to be confirmed)
The Trafalgar Day parade is held annually in October at the cenotaph, where a service and wreath-laying ceremony takes place, supported by TS Erimus Sea Cadets. The parade is attended by the Mayors of Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, Stockton, and Hartlepool. The parade will form up at the East Lodge, then march to the South African war memorial, where it will be met by the dignitaries for the march to the Cenotaph for the service at 11:30am.
Laying of the first poppy (Thursday 9 November 2023
The Mayor of Middlesbrough will lay the first poppy on the field of remembrance at the cenotaph from 10:45am. Pupils from Middlesbrough's primary and secondary schools will be invited to lay poppy crosses in the field of remembrance.
Armistice Day (Saturday 11 November 2023)
A small service will take place at the cenotaph where a two minute silence will be held from 10:45am.
Remembrance Sunday (Sunday 12 November 2023)
The 2023 Remembrance Sunday parade and service will be held on Sunday 12 November. It will be attended by the Mayor and other civic dignitaries. As in previous years, the civic party, veterans, military, and cadets will form up to march to the cenotaph for the service.
Letters patent ceremony (annual, date to be confirmed)
This is the official opening of the Law Courts, and is usually attended by the High Sheriff and the Mayors of Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, Stockton, and Hartlepool.
