Business Rates, also known as National Non-Domestic Rates, are a type of tax. They are charged on most non-domestic properties, like:
- shops
- offices
- pubs
- warehouses
- factories
- holiday rental homes or guest houses
You'll probably need to register for Business Rates, even if you have nothing to pay, if you use a building or part of a building for non-domestic purposes.
The council collects Business Rates. Generally, half of the money is used for the costs of local services, and the rest is paid to the government.
You can find out more about Business Rates on GOV.UK.
